Use the laminated manipulatives, the student must write on them before you give the answer. Then compare with the screen.

Important: The order of steps makes a difference to the student!

First ask the student to write down the total piece count at bottom of each circle. This is the number of total cuts for that circle.

Many if these fit the size, but will it be the right number of slices? In this ex. we are asked to have a fraction deriving from 4 slices (blue arrow).

TERMS:

The colored slices = the number on the top = numerator, and
the total count goes to the bottom = the denominator = the number of cuts you made.
